How to make a Sock Snowman this ChristmasThere’s no better way to spread the festive cheer than crafting handmade Christmas gifts and decorations. While your kids will love trying out their arts and crafts skills, you’ll have the opportunity to create unique, personalised creations – great for decorating the house, or for gifting to friends and family.

In this blog we have a fantastic Christmas craft idea for you to get stuck into this season. Our Handmade Sock Snowman tutorial has been given to us by one of our followers, Ellie, to share especially with you.

Keep reading to find out how you can put odd socks to use and create your very own Sock Snowman!

What you’ll need:

  1. 1 white sock
  2. Pair of scissors
  3. 1 coloured/patterned sock
  4. Handful of dried rice
  5. White string
  6. 3 Beads (two for the eyes and one for the nose)
  7. 3 Buttons (of any size and colour)
  8. Strong glue

Step 1

Lay your white sock out flat and cut in half as shown.

Step 2

Take the upper section and turn it inside out.

Step 3

Using the end that has been cut, tie a piece of string around it so it’s nice and secure.

Then turn the sock back over so the tie is on the inside.

Step 4

Start filling the sock with rice until it forms a plump snowman shape.

Step 5

Use the string to tie up the open end firmly.

Step 6

Next you need to section off the head of your snowman by squeezing the snowman into shape and tying a piece of string around tightly.

Step 7

Now that you have the shape of your snowman, you need to dress him!

Take a new sock (the more colourful the better) and cut as shown.

Step 8

Then fold the bottom edge over a few times to form the rim of a hat. Pop it on top your snowman and fix into place.

Step 9

Use some of the remaining patterned sock to make a scarf by cutting a strip and tying it around your snowman’s neck.

Step 10

Now take your three buttons and glue them on so they sit in a vertical line on the front of your snowman.

Step 11

Using the small beads (or pins depending on your personal preference) glue them onto the top half of your snowman to form two eyes and a nose.

You should now have your very own Sock Snowman!
