Here at V8, we live for veggies because they’re essential for living a healthy lifestyle. They provide so many different health benefits so it’s crucial you have them in your diet. Eating vegetables daily can reduce the risk of many life-threatening diseases such as heart disease and digestion issues such as irritable bowel syndrome.

Vegetables contain vitamins, minerals and fibre essential for healthy living. Different vegetables provide different properties, some vegetables can aid hair growth, and some can help protect you from diseases. A good mix of all the right nutrients, from a range of different vegetables into your diet can really help maintain a healthy lifestyle.

1. Spinach

Spinach is full to the brim with nutrients. It contains manganese, folate, magnesium, iron, copper, vitamins B2, B6, E, C, calcium and potassium. It’s most well-known for preventing disease such as some cancers and helping skin.

Kale is another nutrient-dense food. It contains a very similar mix of nutrients to spinach, including vitamin A, K, C, & B6, manganese, calcium, copper, potassium and magnesium. All critical to sustaining a healthy body and immune system.

3. Garlic

One clove of garlic (3 grams) contains 2% of your RDA of manganese. It also contains Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Selenium and fibre. Garlic has also been known to improve cholesterol levels, reduce blood pressure and relieve sickness including the common cold.

4. Ginger

In ginger, you can find vitamins B3 and B6, iron, potassium, vitamin C, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, folate, riboflavin and niacin. Ginger is well known for soothing upset stomachs and reducing inflammation.

5. Carrots

Carrots contain vitamin A, K1, B6, potassium and biotin. They are also a good source of lutein and beta carotene, which are antioxidants that can benefit eye health.

Easy ways meet your vegetable intake (without even realising)

It can be quite tricky to make sure you’re having a good mix of vegetables to get your daily nutrients.  So, we’ve come up with a few easy ways to make sure you’re getting them.

  • Make vegetable soup – this is a good way of blending a mix of your favourite veggies into one meal.
  • Turn your vegetables into crisps – turning your favourite vegetables into crisps is a lot easier than you think and is a yummy alternative to just boiling them.
  • Experiment with veggie noodles – instead of using normal noodles in your stir fry why not make courgetti ones instead?
